It is made up of a black material that is used to block or absorb light, preventing it from reaching certain areas of the scene. Solid black wag flags are commonly used to create negative fill, which is a technique used to create darker shadows and reduce the amount of ambient light in a scene. They are also used to block unwanted light sources and prevent lens flares.
Wag Flags can be unrolled to various lengths, depending on the needs of the shoot. For example, a 6-foot (183cm) Wag Flag can be half unrolled to create a 6'x3' flag or fully unrolled to create a 6'x6' (183x183cm) diffusion screen. This versatility makes Wag Flags a popular choice among cinematographers and lighting technicians.
The fabric simply hangs like a curtain, but the bottom may be weighted with a rod or shot bag (not included).
